…Confirms Auditor General Local Government Service
The Lagos State House of Assembly members have adopted the recommendations of the Joint Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions & LASIEC, and Health Services on “A Bill for a Law to establish the Lagos State Deoxyribo-Nucleic Acid, DNA and Forensic Centre Bill and for other connected purposes” as the resolution of the house.
Earlier in an attempt to give the report a thorough check, members perused and demanded for clarity on some sections while correcting some typographical errors.
Hon. Ganiu Okanlawon who blazed the trail of critical perusal of the report, also took out time to commend the joint committee for the painstaking efforts put into the report not minding it scientific technicalities.
The Chief Whip, Hon Lasbat Meranda noted that the House has a standard procedure for confirmation of appointment in the composition of the board and this should be strictly adhered to.
In his contribution, Hon. Lukman Olumoh stated that gender sensitivity should be reflected in the composition of the Board.
Hon. Tobun Abiodun however raised concern on the need for expressly stated punitive measure for any personnel who shares information to unauthorized persons should be severe than that of offenders who used the information, noting that penalty mentioned in the bill is too meagre.
The House after wholesome deliberation of the recommendations of the Committee, subsequently adopted it as the resolution of the House subject to the amendment proposed in some ascertained areas of the bill.
The House, Chairman Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions & LASIEC, Hon. Victor Akande during the presentation of report said that stakeholders observations and comments informed the recommendations of the Committee.
It will however be recalled that the House had on Wednesday, 28th July, 2021 held a public hearing to garner contributions of stakeholders and members of the public on the proposed Law.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa later announced the confirmation of appointment of Mr. Ogunlana Obafemi Musa as Auditor General, Unified Local Government Service.
Obasa later directed the Acting Clerk of the House Olalekan Onafeko to send a letter of confirmation to Mr. Governor.
