The lawmakers at the House of Chi

…task LASG motorists on indiscipline

The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Commerce and Industry has been urged to help make a case for speedy reconstruction of Chi vita Avenue road, which has been in a deplorable state and poses untold hardship on commuters and commercial activities in the axis.
The plea was made by the Group Executive Director of Chi Group of Companies, Mr. Jerome Shogbon when the committee led by its Chairman Hon. Jude Idimogu member representing Oshodi /Isolo constituency II, made an oversight visit to the House of Chi in Lagos.
Jerome while welcoming the house delegation noted that the main challenge confronting the company’s commerce is the deplorable state of the main road which connects it to other routes in the area.
He said that in spite of the fact that the company has not defaulted in payment of tax and its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), yet a
road which ought to be the state government’s responsibility is left unattended to.
According to Jerome, after the completion of the bridge close to us here we have made several efforts to call the attention of government to address this problem by reconstruction this road, we have written letters and reminders but all to no avail.
“A visit to this axis in the peak period will help you assess the challenge better; everywhere will be locked down coupled with the waste of time.
“At times our staff pack as far as Ejigbo Junction in the morning while coming to work.
“We need support from the government in respect of the road, if there is an emergency and such need quick medical attention, the gridlock here might debar such person the needed attention.
“We don’t mind paying money but accessing our place of commerce must be made easy, we have even offered to bear the cost of the materials for the repair.
“The issue of traffic in Lagos is hellish and I think it is time the assembly discusses with the executive on the need to have coastal roads, so as to take care of the traffic since there are no light rails.
He also highlights the rate of motorist indiscipline and disregard for traffic rules, charging Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to pay unscheduled visit to areas with the traffic issue in the state like his predecessor.
“Indiscipline in Lagos State should be dealt with it was not like this in time past, Fashola do drive around at night to assess the situation and deal with the issue, you must not seat in your comfort zone all the time.
“Once they know you can visit at anytime they will seat up, Lagos was clean in time past but that has change now, indiscipline is back in Lagos,Okada rider indiscriminate conduct is back, we need restore sanity,” Jerome said.
Jerome added that adjourning Private Estates within the area are also not helping matters during the peak periods, as they deliberately lock up their gates blocking the motorist from having a leeway when the route is blocked.
In his response Hon. Jude noted that the Governor Ambode has issued an order recently directing the Public Works Corporation to fill the pot holes, he said a feedback will be made to the Speaker Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, citing the contributions of the company to the community via tax and CSR as a basis for consideration a new budget is in view.
