The Lagos State Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu has assured Lagosians that the Marine Police Command is being adequately equipped to make the waterways safer.
He spoke on Wednesday, while addressing the growing insecurity especially on the state’s waterways.
He said: “Intelligence has made us aware that some criminals have started using waterways for kidnapping, abduction, robbery and smuggling. We have succeeded in raiding and setting free some people who were abducted and they have been reunited with their families.

He served a note of warning to all criminals using the waterways that Lagos State Police is out for them. Lagos is not going to be a sanctuary for those who want to foment violence or criminality on Lagos. “You cannot make use of our waterway and wreck havoc on our people. It is not only the land areas of this state that we are going to police now, henceforth we would be policing the waterways in accordance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police Alkhali Usman Baba and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Odumosu who conducted a monitoring of the waterways on Wednesday said he has observed the gaps in the operations of the Marine Police Command and efforts would be made to speedily block these loopholes to make the state a tough and fortified place both on land and waterways.
