The Lagos State Government, through the State Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, has deepened the administrative capacity of newly elevated Principals and Vice Principals in the State Post Primary schools with an induction workshop.

The workshop aimed   to equip, re-orientate and reinforce the capabilities of this calibre of policy drivers in Schools with emphasis on the ethos of administration and school management techniques of the present modern times.

Declaring the induction workshop open at the Teaching Service Staff Development Centre, Owutu, Ikorodu, Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission, Mrs Victoria Mopelola Peregrino said that State-wide Induction for two hundred (200) newly elevated Principals and Vice Principals has become one of the veritable avenues where successful officers are exposed to contemporary issues bordering on the ever-increasing scope of School’s Administration/Management.

She reminded them that their role as Principal or Vice Principal is not only a leader in school who is expected to establish policies and procedure that governs the operation of the school curriculum, but includes curiosity, persistence, resilience, flexibility, responsibility and hard work, which are key qualities to success.

She said “This event is in line with the goals of the T.H.E.M.E.S PLUS Agenda of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, wherein, quality education becomes the focal point which ensures that learners receive life transforming instructions for competence, confidence and efficiencies. As a school administrator, you have to be curios, resilience, flexible, responsible and hard work to succeed in your calling”.

Mrs Peregrino, who was represented at the event by a board members of the Commission representing Epe Division, Hon. Dr. Olusegun Agbaje, charged the newly elevated Principals and Vice-Principals to be key change agents that will be remembered for shaping future leaders and embrace technology in improving the quality of teaching and learning in our Schools.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Commission, Mr, Olawale Ojikutu, represented by the Director, Teachers Education and Capacity Development, Mrs. Aloba Abidemi, congratulated them and charged them to work harder as the result for hard work is more work.

He said “A big task has been bestowed on you and you have the responsibility to brace up to the challenge and prove your mettle. Your performance on the job should assure the State Government and indeed, Mr. Governor that in truth, you are deserving of this elevation”.

Mr Ojikutu reminded them that as principal, they are expected to be skilled problem solvers with excellent analytical skill to find solutions and resolve issues, including disciplinary/budget issues. He advised them to avoid making unilateral decisions, rather they need to incorporate the views and concerns of stakeholders involved in school system to feel ownership of the solution.

The 2-day induction workshop handled by a seasoned facilitator, LATERAL CONSULTING, is a combination of lectures, syndicate session, case studies, the use of blended skills, competencies and experience sharing.
