SUNRISE NEWS, Lagos, Aug 24, 2020 Lagos State Government confirmed this morning that the Commissioner for Health Prof. Akin Emmanuel Abayomi has tested positive for the Coronavirus infection
Abayomi, who was the Deputy Incident Commander for the state has been in the forefront of efforts by the Lagos State Government to contain the deadly and noisy pestilence from ravaging the state.
The Information and Strategy Commissioner Mr Gbenga Omotoso, who confirmed the development on Twitter said Abayomi is asymptomatic and responding to treatment.
Breaking the news on his official tweeter handle @gbenga_omo, the Information Commissioner said Abayomi might have contacted the infection due to his close contacts with persons feeling unwell and testing positive to the COVID-19 infection.
Omotoso said: “The Honourable Commissioner for Health Prof Akin Abayomi has tested positive for the virus. Abayomi became aware of his status following the required testing protocol of contact tracing procedures.
“However, he is doing well with no symptoms.”
Omotoso further said that adhering to the protocol of home based strategy in the state, Abayomi will be isolating in his home for the nect 14 days but will continue to discharge his duties both as the Deputy Incident Commander of the Incident Command System for COVID-19, and most especially, as the Honourable Commissioner for Health.
“Our prayers are with him and his family during his period of isolation,” Gbenga Omotoso said.
Sunrise News confirms that Abayomi has been very active in developing initiatives that has helped the state in bringing down the impact of the infection on its citizens.
It is the first time that the Lagos State Commissioner for Health and a Professor of Virology would test positive to the dreaded infection.
