The only lawmaker from Igbo extraction in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Jude Idimogu, has called on the Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi to investigate an alleged invasion of Joe Igbokwe, Special Adviser to Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Drainage Services on Saturday to inaugurate his brother, Mr Ekene Emmanuel Igbokwe as the chairman, Ndigbo in Lagos APC.
Mr Idimogu, a two-term lawmaker, representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, made the call in a statement on Monday in Lagos.
It would be recalled that the leadership crisis between Idimogu and Igbokwe was renewed on Saturday at the official inauguration of Executive Members of Ndigbo in APC, Lagos State, Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chapter, at the party secretariat.
Both Mr Igbokwe, the apex leader of Ndigbo in Lagos APC, and Mr Idimogu, his deputy, on Saturday disagreed over the list of executive members of Ndigbo in Lagos APC, Ejigbo LCDA Chapter.
The inauguration was however conducted by Mr Igbokwe amidst protest from the group loyal to Mr Idimogu, who vowed that the event would not hold because they were not carried along.
Idimogu said that it was unfair and unjust for Igbokwe to inaugurate any executive council in his constituency without his full inputs.
“Further to the event that happened on Saturday at the purported inauguration of Executive Members of Ndigbo in Lagos APC, I plead with the state party to investigate thoroughly what happened.
“I want this invasion of my constituency by Joe Igbokwe, Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Drainage Service with battalion of police officers and vans to be looked into.
“I think the party should look into the imposition of executives of Ndigbo in APC on me in the constituency which I have been represented for two terms now.
“The party should not treat this with levity because election is coming. Igbokwe and his travelers do not have the grassroots and cannot win election for APC,” he added.
The lawmaker said that what baffled him most was the number of police officers and vehicles that were allegedly mobilised by Igbokwe to carry out the inauguration.
“To have about 100 policemen to perpetrate illegality is an invitation to chaos in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II. Let the party investigate this.
“Igbokwe has succeeded in inaugurating his brother, Ekene Emmanuel Igbokwe, as the Chairman, Ndigbo in Lagos APC, Ejigbo LCDA Chapter.
“This is the only person he succeeded in inaugurating with the huge number of police men he came with.
“I think the Lagos State Police Command should investigate the senerio that made over 100 police to follow only one person for an inauguration of Ndigbo executives in Lagos,” he said.
In his reaction, Igbokwe had said that all issues about the inauguration would be resolved and fixed.
