A lawmaker representing Badagry in the House of Representatives, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has appealed to Nigerians to back the presidential ambition of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Hunpe urged Nigerians to reward Tinubu with the presidency.
He said: “So, what we should do to reward him now is to support him, if he wants to contest the 2023 presidential election.
“We are doing this because of our individual interest, but this is not the best as it cannot take us anywhere.
“Tinubu has paid his dues, he has done a lot for this country, and if the man comes out that he wants anything, I want to appeal to all Nigerians to support him.”
Meanwhile, the former lawmaker representing Ekiti South in the Senate, Dayo Adeyeye, has urged South-west politicians to drop their presidential election for Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Adeyeye made the call during a visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The former lawmaker led members of South-West Agenda (SWAGA) for 2023 on a courtesy visit to the Ooni in his palace in Ile Ife.
The former Senate spokesperson urged the royal father to prevail on those planning to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari from the zone to drop their ambition.
He, however, admitted that Tinubu had not directed the group to canvas for him ahead of 2023, but said members of SWAGA decided to mobilise support for the ex-governor because of his capacity to win.
“We plead with the Ooni and other Yoruba monarchs to ensure unity within the race. Whoever that should be talked to, should be talked to and ensure that a capable candidate is fielded,” Senator Adeyeye said.
