The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State Hakeem Odumosu, who led a rescue operation on Tuesday, rescued one Onyiwara Faith, a corps member serving at ABC Farm, Ilamija Nla Village in Epe, a riverine axis of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bala Elkana, disclosed this in a statement forwarded to Sunrise News on Tuesday.
He explained that Faith was abducted on Friday last week while on her way to attend the Community Development Service (CDS) meeting at Ilamija.
The abductors were said to have demanded a ransom of N50 million but later reduced it to N400,000 from the farm manager to be dropped at Ijebu Ososa area.
But Elkana stated that no ransom was paid while the police swung into action.
An operation led by Odumosu led to Faith’s rescue at about 2.20 am on Tuesday in a swamp forest around Ilamija Nla in Epe after a gun battle.
“The kidnappers’ ring leader – Moses Ofeye, 31 year old from Ondo State of Ijaw origin – was arrested with gun wounds”.
“The victim was taken to a hospital for medical attention due to the shock and trauma she experienced and long-distance trek,” the command’s spokesman said.
He noted that the victim is in stable condition and has been handed over to the Lagos State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and her family.
