Lagos Red Line: Govt extends traffic diversion at Yaba, Oyingbo by 2 months

Lagos State Government on Thursday, announced the extension of traffic diversion on Murtala Muhammed Way, Yaba and Apapa Road, Oyingbo, by another nine weeks.

The extension which was in furtherance of the ongoing construction of the first phase of the Red Line of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit, initially slated to end on January 27, 2023, will now end on March 31, 2023.

The Commissioner for Transportation Dr Frederic Oladeinde who disclosed this in a statement explained that the total lane closure will be sustained to allow the contractor complete the construction without any inhibition during the course of the construction.

Oladeinde revealed that the previous alternative routes will also be maintained, adding that traffic on Murtala Muhammed Way, will be diverted to Abeokuta Street to access Borno Way to Coates Street to link Murtala Muhammed Way, adding that motorists can alternately access their destinations from Cemetery Street.

In the same vein, Traffic on Apapa Road will be accommodated with the temporary lanes constructed before the overpass and will be channelized to two lanes on Murtala Muhammed Way.

The Commissioner assured that the site will be cordoned off for the safety of the motoring public, adding that tow vehicles will be on ground to evacuate broken down vehicles along the axis.

He also stated that signages will be placed on the access roads with the State’s Traffic Management Authority to manage traffic flow and minimize inconveniences

The Commissioner restated the governor’s commitment to the development of multimodal transport infrastructure adding that this would be achieved with the cooperation of Lagosians.
