The Lagos State Chapter of the Road Transport Employers’ Association (RTEAN) has commenced Operations Show Your Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for all his members ahead of 2019 general elections.
Alh. Mohammed Musa, the state Chairman of RTEAN on Monday threatened executive members of the union across various chapels and zonal operations to either get the PVCs or lose their position by January.
Musa, who undertook the PVCs’ verification exercise for hundreds of union excos from Ikorodu-Epe and Ojo zone II at the RTEAN Secretariat in the state, said the association must support good governance in the state.
“We will not allow anyone of our member to sit down without collecting history her voter card.
“Our organisation believes that the only way we can vote in leaders we want, those that are working and vote out those we believe are not for the masses is having PVCs.
” The weapon we have is only the voter cards that is what it is very important for every member to have voter card ready before 2019.
“Anyone of my member I find out not having PVCs will have his position taken away while those that have PVCs will take such position,” the Chairman told NAN at the end of the exercise.
Musa, who charged excos members who came with Temporary Voter Cards (PVCs), said he would tolerate such when the verification exercise would be repeated in January.
“By January, I will still call for this verification exercise, any member that does not have the permanent cards will lose his position in the union. If you don’t have the voter card, then go away. I have mine and every member should have also.
“I give those who are in possession of TVCs till January to get the PVCs. If you want to work with me, you must produce original card,
“Let no one say I am wicked, I will give out position of anyone who will not have the card by January. Go and get the original (Permanent),” he added.
According to him, the union is for good governance and that is the reason why the organisation is getting ready for 2019.
He said that the union is declaring support for the good government in the state saying “we as as association know where we belong.
Musa said that the state chapter would call its over 30, 000 members for similar exercise in January for verification.
The Zonal Chairman, Ikorodu-Epe-Obalende zone of RTEAN, Alh. Isiaka Seriki said the exercise said to put the union’s together in order to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.
” Operation show your voter cards is to put our house together before 2019 election. We are members of APC in Lagos.
“We all belong to APC, we are working for APC. Everyone of us has PVCs and we are totally in support of APC aspirants especially in Lagos State,” Seriki said.
Speaking, Mr Ilesanmi Ako,, Zonal Deputy Secretary of RTEAN, Ojo Zone II said that exercise was to throw support to APC in Lagos State.
Ako said that the state chairman had made possession of PVCs compulsory for all members since February.
According to him, the chairman has told them that whoever fails to have the PVCs will be expel or lose his position in the union.
Mr Sakiru Idowu, the Deputy Chairman (Administration), Ikorodu-Epe zone said that members did only have the PVCs but ensured their wives and attendants collect it.
The exercise, which started on Thursday with executive members from Surulere and Ojo Zone I, would be conducted for all RTEAN chapels across the state.
Some of the union members who spoke in separate interviews said that they did not only have their PVCs but had ensured their households have.
