In a significant leap toward smarter healthcare delivery, the Lagos State Government has launched a new digital platform comprising the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee (LSBTC) website and a Blood Inventory Management System (BIMS). This innovation supports improved access to real-time blood supply data, enabling more coordinated and effective healthcare delivery.

The launch, which took place recently at Providence by Martins, GRA, Ikeja, marks a significant milestone in Lagos State’s journey toward digitalised, data-driven health services. It further demonstrates the state’s commitment to leveraging technology to transform healthcare delivery.

With interoperability at its core, the new system integrates seamlessly with the Lagos Smart Health Information Platform (Lagos SHIP), which is powered by Interswitch. This ensures centralised access to critical health information, improving collaboration and enabling faster responses in emergency situations.

Lagos SHIP is a digital health platform developed to enhance service delivery across Lagos State’s health sector by leveraging Interswitch’s robust technology infrastructure. The platform creates a seamless flow of patient data between healthcare providers, ensuring timely and efficient care for every individual. It eliminates delays and streamlines access to information by enabling better coordination.

The LSBTC website and BIMS provide Lagos residents, healthcare providers, blood banks, and state health officials with real-time access to blood donation and availability data, streamlining supply coordination and enhancing patient care.

Speaking at the launch, Olufemi Olapegba, Managing Director of Digital Health Platforms, Interswitch, highlighted the importance of the initiative as part of a larger health-tech mission.

He said:

“At Interswitch, we are deeply committed to leveraging technology to solve real-life challenges in critical sectors, and health is a top priority. The launch of the LSBTC website and Blood Inventory Management System reflects the growing use of strategic innovation to enhance efficiency, transparency, and patient outcomes in healthcare. Our role comes in through Lagos SHIP, a broader state-wide digital health platform powered by Interswitch, where this system will be fully integrated. This integration will help strengthen data-driven collaboration across the state’s health ecosystem. Our support for Lagos SHIP reflects our broader vision to power intelligent, responsive healthcare systems across Africa.”

This initiative also supports Interswitch’s expanding health-tech portfolio, which includes solutions in electronic medical records, digital claims processing, health financing, and health information exchange. By deepening its footprint in healthcare, Interswitch is helping lay the digital rails for a more inclusive, efficient, and responsive health system across the continent. As Lagos State continues to invest in digital transformation, the launch of the LSBTC website and Blood Inventory Management System serves as a clear example of what becomes possible when public sector vision aligns with private sector expertise, with the potential to positively impact millions of lives.
