The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ) Lagos State Chapter, has extended its deepest sympathy to the people of Borno State, members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and especially brave colleagues, NAWOJ members, who have been directly or indirectly affected by the catastrophic floods in the state.
These floods, triggered by the collapse of the Alau Dam, have submerged thousands of homes, farmlands, the palace of the Shehu of Borno, and several government facilities in the capital, leaving destruction in their wake.

And dear NAWOJIANs in the state, we see and honor the critical work you continue to do in sharing the stories of your communities, despite the personal hardships you face.
NAWOJ remains committed to providing support in any way possible.
We also urge the federal government to take immediate and proactive steps to address the issues surrounding the dam’s collapse and prevent future occurrences.
