LAMATA begins Cowry card on Ikorodu-TBS route on Monday

The Cowry Card

Beginning from today, February 1, 2021, fare collection on the Ikorodu to TBS BRT route, operated by the Primero Transport Services, will be through the use of the Lags travel card known as the Cowry card, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has said.

Announcing this in a statement signed by LAMATA’s Assistant Director, Corporate Communications Mr Kolawole Ojelabi yesterday, the Agency’s boss, Mrs Abimbola Akinajo said Primero’s use of the card is in line with the governor’s directive that the card must be the only mode of fare payment on the public transport system in the state.

Sunrise News recalls that Cowry Card has been in use on the Oshodi to Abule Egba BRT system since it was launched by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in August last year.

Akinajo said the e-ticketing system is to reduce cash transactions in transport operations in order to protect stakeholders’ investment in the transport sector.

Akinajo also disclosed that a novel community bus scheme, First Mile and Last Mile (FMLM) Scheme, will soon be launched as a feeder system to transport services on the main transport corridors.

According to her, the services of FMLM would also run using the Cowry card.

She enjoined commuters to embrace the use of the Cowry card which would soon be extended to other transport services such as water and rail transportation in 2022 to ease access to transport services in the state. LAMATA is the regulator of all regulated transport operators in the state. They include Primero Transport Services Limited, Lagos Bus Services Limited, Amalgamated Transport Services Limited, TJ Motors and TSL.
