The General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, Engr. Mrs. Abiola Kosegbe has been awarded a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE) award.

Receiving the Fellowship Award from the National Chairman of NIEE, Engr. Olamilekan Ajani, during the National Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers, held in Lagos, Engr. Abiola Kosegbe expressed her appreciation to NIEE for finding her worthy of the prestigious award.

She explained that since her appointment, in August 2019, as the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), the Agency had witnessed several improvements and recorded new innovations.

She said, “I have introduced compulsory use of the site instruction booklet by LASBCA building inspectors as well as the use of drones for monitoring and data capturing with the overall aim of reducing incidents of building collapse”.

Engr. Kosegbe disclosed that she had successfully strengthened the collaboration between LASBCA and other relevant MDAs associated with the built industry to achieve a one-stop clearance for building construction among several others.

Earlier in his remarks, the National Chairman of NIEE, Engr. Olamilekan Ajani, stated that the award was in recognition of the awardee’s efforts at promoting the activities of the institution and for her giant strides towards building control issues in Lagos State.

He explained that the recognition is expected to spur the General Manager to ensure that basic minimum standards are maintained in building construction and renovations in every part of the State.

Ajani advised the awardee to bring her vast experience in environmental engineering to the fore for the progress of the Institution, having served in several capacities including overseeing rehabilitation and construction of dumpsites in Lagos State, under the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), as the then Head of Projects Department.

The NIEE National Chairman also promised that the Institute will continue to partner relevant government agencies at the Federal and State levels to address the menace of climate change and global warming and its attendant risks on the residents.
