The Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA) General Manager Mr Oke Osanyintolu has disclosed that only insured personnel are qualified to handle emergency situation, so ad-hoc volunteers have no business in safety matters.

According to Osanyintolu safety practitioners are well equipped and prepared for any eventualities in case of sudden happening that has devastating effect, so untrained hands in emergency situation will only translate to too much risk for the state.

The LASEMA boss while reacting to the recent protest staged by a number of alleged 33 LASEMA adhoc volunteers for been unlawfully disengaged.

“We have 125 staffers in LASEMA who are fully insured, I can’t work with people that are not insured because they are not our staff.

“AVANTGARD are consultants who engaged them say they should go, so there are no overlapping jobs for them.

“We don’t have anything called adhoc staff, the 33 adhoc volunteers are not insured and we never employed them, then ask them what was their mode of engagement.

“If there is any problem who will help them so I urge them to stop risking their lives.

In another development,Hon. Omotayo Oduntan former Deputy Chief Whip who represented Alimosho II constituency in the 8th Assembly at the Lagos State House of Assembly, visited the Ijegun gas pipeline explosion site for on spot assessment of the situation and lauded the swift response of LASEMA urging the state government to sensitize Lagosians on the need to know who to call in case of emergency situation.

“LASEMA is performing excellently well, I can vouch for the GM, he is an expert who will do the needful at any time on handling of emergency situation, but government should help them to sensitize the public on who to call.

It would be recalled that LASEMA was on hand early to respond to the emergency fire accident situation that broke out at Ijegun on July 4, 2019.
