The Lagos State Government has urged motorists to remain calm, despite the protest of the Labour Congress procession in Ikeja and its environs today.
The NLC is protesting in a three-day solidarity protest with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), continuing strike action which entered its fifth month on July 14, 2022.
They had also threatened to embark on an indefinite strike at the end of the third day if the Federal Government refuses to do anything to end the protracted strike action.
The NLC had called all its affiliates to embark on a three-day nationwide protest to force the Federal Government to resolve the lingering ASUU strike.
The call came on the heels of the marching order by President Muhammadu Buhari last week, on the Minister of Education Alhaji Adamu Adamu to resolve the ASUU strike within two weeks. He also indicated interest to be directly involved in resolving the issues which led to the strike by the varsity teachers.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, in a personally signed statement, explained that the appeal by government is imperative because the protest has hindered free vehicular movement from Ikeja UnderBridge, through Allen to Alausa, and other parts of Ikeja.
Oladeinde assured motorists that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority are already stationed at the various junctions and major routes to manage movement during the protest.
He urged motoring public to cooperate with the LASTMA officials in order to minimize inconveniences in movement throughout the period of the strike.
