LASG canvass new NMA Exco’s collaboration on universal health coverage

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi has charged the newly elected executives of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Lagos Zone on the need to join hands with government in the task of achieving universal health coverage and maintaining the security and economic livelihood of citizens.
Prof. Abayomi gave the charge while receiving the NMA executives, who were on a familiarisation visit and also presented their three point pronged agenda at his office today.
He congratulated the new exco, assuring them of cordial relationship that will result in a win-win situation for government and the association.
He urged them to join hands with government in the task of achieving universal health coverage and maintaining the security and economic livelihood of citizens.
“The solidarity we have amongst ourselves and the respective Medical Allied Professionals, significant stakeholders and custodians of the policies and components of the medical fraternity should work together in promoting adequate healthcare for Lagosians and its environs”.
The visiting NMA executives were received by the Honourable Commissioner Prof. Akin Abayomi, Permanent Secretary, Health Service Commission, Dr. Muyiwa Eniayewun and Director Medical Administration, Training and Programmes, Dr. Funmilayo Shokunbi.
The elated NMA leadership in Lagos led by its Chairman Dr. Benjamin Olowojebutu in his short remarks note that their three points agenda bothers on : 1 Lagos Doctor’s welfare,2.Lagos Healthcare system and 3. Lagosians.
Olowojebutu assured the Commissioner of the support and commitment of Lagos NMA to the provision of qualitative and efficient health service delivery to the Lagos populace.
The NMA executives were accompanied by the Second Vice President of NMA (national), Dr. Adetunji Adenekan; Past Chairman Dr Temitope Ojo and Dr S.K Adebayo, Dr Dapo Adegbaju MDCAN Chairman Federal Neuropsychiatry Hospital Yaba, Dr Samuel Okerinde ARD President LUTH, Dr Jimmy Arigbabuwo, President Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Lagos Branch, Dr. Ibironke Sodeinde and Chairman, Association, of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP), Dr. Makinde Akinlemibola and Dr Saied Ahmad Chairman Medical Guild.
The high point of the event was the presentation of the Exco three point agenda and a portrait painting of the Commissioner to him by Dr. Olowojebutu.
