LASG inaugurates parks monitoring committee

Members of the newly inaugurated parks monitoring committee have been charged to work very hard to sanitise all motor parks spread across the state, the Special Adviser to the government on Transportation Mr Oluwatoyin Fayinka has said.

Fayinka who inaugurated the 11-man committee at the boardroom of the Ministry of Transportation urged them to adhere strictly by the guidelines overseeing all the parks in the State without misrepresentation.

He added that the successful performance of the Committee will depend on their comportment, diligence and total commitment to their responsibilities according to the work guidelines.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Sewedo Oluseyi Whenu, who described members of the committee as the ears and eyes of the government, charged them to be civil in the discharge of their responsibilities so that the impact of the initiative would be felt in the transportation sector.

 The Permanent Secretary promised that the Committee will be supported with necessary tools to make their task easy, adding that the Committee is expected to provide weekly reports on the level of progress and other details that may be required by the Ministry.

The Director, Transport Operation, Engr. Gbolahan Toriola who was also present at the event advised the Parks Monitoring Committee to ensure orderliness in the motor parks in line with the Transport Sector Reform Law, and the State Government White’s Paper 2012.

Other responsibilities of the Committee includes; Prohibition of sale and consumption of illicit drinks especially alcoholic drinks at Motor Parks, Collation and Dissemination of security reports from various Motor parks, ensuring Cleanliness of Parks, Prevention of Conversion of Motor parks to abodes for Miscreants as well as sanction of Parks that fail to comply with the laws.

Toriola further stated that the 11-man committee headed by Mr. Tella Oluwayemisi, will be aided by two management members in the Legal and Secretarial relations in order to supervise their operations and provide feedback to the Ministry on their progress reports.

The Chairman of the committee in his response thanked the Lagos State Government for the rare opportunity to serve. He assured the government of the readiness of his members to sanitise motor parks and ensure that all parks in the state operate within the provided guidelines.
