LASHMA inaugurates Badagry Ilera Eko office, assures residents of quality healthcare

Residents of the ancient town of Badagry and its environs have been assured of maximum  cost effective and quality health care services.

The General Manager,  Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, gave the assurance at the commissioning of another “ILERA EKO” divisional office within the General Hospital, Badagry, making it the fourth of such divisional offices to be inaugurated after the establishment of similar offices at Ikorodu, Alimosho, and Epe.

She said that this laudable effort of the State Government is aimed at sustaining the promotion of affordable and quality health care service in order to attain the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the State. 

Represented by the Head, Business Development and Marketing, Lagos State Health Management Agency  (LASHMA), Mr Olatunji Rotimi,  Dr. Zamba listed the benefits of ILERA EKO to include: outpatient care for common ailments and conditions such as malaria, management of uncomplicated chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and asthma.

Other benefits, the General Manager mentioned, include the treatment of HIV and tuberculosis, minor surgeries such as incision drainage, herniorrhaphy, appendectomy, pharmaceutical care, health promotion and diseases prevention.

In her words, “the annual premium of N40, 000, covers a family of six – Father, mother and four children below 18 years to receive quality healthcare at any Hospital of their choice under the Lagos State Health Scheme.

Dr. Zamba added that  individuals can also enjoy the same benefits with the premium of N8, 500 annually”.

She however noted that children who are 18 years and above, would have to register under the individual plan.

Dr. Zamba also disclosed that the insurance scheme has made provision for a quarterly installment policy for unions, groups and associations. This, she said, is scheduled to take off by the 4th quarter of the year.

According to her; “the benefits for all subscribers are enormous, they would upon enrolment have access to quality treatment for medical challenges devoid of financial constraints.”

She enjoined everyone to ensure that their preferred healthcare facility is closer   to their homes. The General Manager said that this is necessary in order to have immediate and prompt access to health facilities especially during emergency cases.

Dr. Zamba also revealed that ILERA EKO Enrollee, can also call or consult a medical doctor via audio or video call to the toll-free line 0700-ILERAEKO (0700- 45372356) or 0800-EKOMED (0800-356633) from the comfort of their homes.

“LASHMA has registration points and enrollment officers in various Local Governments (LGs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state. You can walk in freely to register and enroll or for your convenience, you can visit LASHMA website – lashma.com or www.lashma.lagostate.gov.ng” she said.

Buttressing the General Manager’s assertion, LASHMA  Board Member representative, Comrade Julius Awojide, commended the efforts of the Lagos State Government for bringing ILERA EKO initiative of “Pay Small Small to enjoy plenty” to Badagry.

Awojide, implored eminent personalities in attendance  to spread the good news to the grassroot and appealed to residents to propagate the policy.

In his remark, the Medical Director of the General Hospital, Badagry, Dr. Surajudeen Bakare, commended the efforts of the Agency, saying it is a testimony of the commitment and realization of the present administration’s THEMES Agenda. He recommended ILERA EKO to the  residents and urged them to take advantage of the health plan.

Dr. Bakare, opined that the hospitals in Badagry are ready to support the Lagos State Government to make the programme a huge success.

On his own part, His Royal Majesty, De Wheno, Aholu Menu- Toyi 1, the Akran of Badagry, represented by the Agoloto of Badagry, Dr. Hundogan Samuel, appreciated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his determination and commitment towards ensuring the wellness of the residents in the state especially in Badagry, noting that ILERA EKO will provide the opportunity for the residents to be conscious of their health.

Chief Hundogan, promised to disseminate and take the information back to the palace. He therefore urged residents in Badagry division to key into the programme.

The Chief Imam of Badagry, Sheikh Abdul-Hakeem Akewusola  in his response, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration for making the wellbeing of the people a topmost priority.

He stated that this shows that the government is committed to the people irrespective of their locations. The Chief Imam promised to give his full support and also spread the good news to all Muslim members.

On his part, the President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Badagry Chapter, Mr. Sunday Hunyinbo appreciated Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the management of LASHMA for the laudable initiative. He appealed to all residents to enroll on ILERA  EKO in order to enjoy the full benefits and opportunities that it offers. 

He promised to mobilise all Christian members to enrol on  ILERA EKO.
