LASTMA rescues 8 accident victims at Anthony, Lagos

Emergency responders rescuing victims of the bus accident

The General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr Bolaji Oreagba, says operatives of the agency rescued eight accident victims at Anthony inward Ojota area the state.

Oreagba said this in a statement signed and made available to newsmen by Mr Taofiq Adedayo, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, on Monday.

He said that LASTMA Commander, Mr Popoola Olushola, led the rescue team.

According to him, the accident involved a broken down truck and a fully loaded mass transit bus with registration no KTU 850 YD.

Oreagba said preliminary investigation revealed that the bus driver was on speed and lost control due to brake failure and rammed after into a broken down truck ahead of him.

He confirmed that LASTMA officials rescued eight injured accident victims; two males and six females.

“Immediately after the accident happened, our officials with support from policemen from Anthony Police Command, quickly intervened and rescued victims among those passengers inside the commercial mass transit bus.

“The victims were immediately rushed to nearby hospital for immediate medical attention,” he said.

The General Manager who sympathised with the victims, urged the motoring public, particularly commercial bus drivers, to be extra careful and ensure that the road was clear ahead and behind, before over-taking on expressways across the state. (NAN)
