LASUBEB launches inaugural ‘Eko 200 Poems’ festival –Exec chairman

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), on Friday, launched the first edition of Lagos Schools’ Poetry Festival, ”Eko 200 Poems: An anthology of Nursery Rhymes”, to birth literary awareness in basic public schools.

Mr Wahab Alwaiye-King, Executive Chairman, LASUBEB, told a news conference in Lagos that the festival would also encourage creative thinking toward the production of beautiful rhythmic nursery renditions.

According to Alwaiye-King, the rhythmic nursery renditions’ would reflect our local values and character.

He said that the event was part of efforts by the state government to provide an all-round education that would involve and advance the ”cognitive, the affective and the psychomotor” domains of learning, for every pupil in the state

He said that it was also in line with the education and technology pillars of the Gov. Babajide Sanwo-OIu’s THEME Agenda, adding that the festival would  also encourage creative thinking amongst pupils, build their reading and speaking skills, and inspire them to create new stories they could call their own.

Alawiye-King added that the festival with the theme: ”My Lagos Today, The Tomorrow”, was open for pupils from primary one to six, in public schools across the state.

The project is a collaboration with Artswax Communications and other art enthusiasts, he said.
