Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has opened a resting space for patients’ relatives on admission.
At the commissioning of the facility which was provided by Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, emphasized that the 26-bed facility was to ensure relatives remain in close touch with their loved ones undergoing medical treatment at the hospital.
He said that the concept had been in development for a long time, noting that an earlier attempt to implement it through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model did not materialize until the Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA proposed and donated the building thus making the initiative a reality.
The CMD said that the quarter commenced operations about 10 days before commissioning and has recorded good patronage.
Fabamwo stated that the initiative was driven by LASUTH’s commitment to patient-centred care, ensuring that patient attendants no longer need to endure uncomfortable conditions such as sleeping in cars or being exposed to mosquitoes.
The 26-bed quarter has two separate wings for male and female occupants, with 13 beds assigned to each gender. The environment is clean and conducive, ensuring that patient attendants have a suitable space to rest and refresh.
