The ongoing rehabilitation of Ikotun-Ijegun road by the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) which commenced in February has caused an upsurge in economic activities at Ikotun Ijegun road and environs. The rehabilitation of the Ikotun-Ijegun road in the Alimosho area of the state is part of the directive of Mr Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s executive order to rehabilitate a number of vital roads across the state.
The Governor’s directive is in a bid to ease traffic management in the state and to relieve Lagosians of the stress they encounter while they commute within the state as they go about their daily activities.
However, efforts of the Sanwo-Olu Administration have been applauded by residents of the Ikotun-Ijegun environs since LSPWC commenced work on the road. A resident of the area, Mr Abdul-Hamid Abdul-Fatai, expressed his gratitude to the Governor for heeding to the call of residents of the area by fixing the road. He stated that the road was in a dire state prior to now, but since rehabilitation began the residents are now confident that when the rains come, they can go about their normal activities unhindered.
Another resident, Mrs Omolara Adetobi, stated that the road was not good at all. She said that ‘’Once rain falls, transport operators immediately increase their fares but now that the road is being repaired, the transporters can no longer do that and it has also led to an increase in business/activities along the Ikotun-Ijegun road’. She also called on the Local Government to constantly help clear drainages in the area to reduce the incessant road damage and maintain road.
Yet another resident thanked the Governor for his efforts, as their journey along the road that used to take 2 hours now takes about 25 minutes and that it has helped relieve his mother of the frequent headaches, body pains and the money spent on medical treatment she experiences while plying the road.
