Man, 27, arraigned for alleged unlawful deal in hemp

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday charged a 27-year-old Stanley Chukwudi before a Federal High Court, Lagos, for alleged drug trafficking.

Chukwudi is charged on two counts of illegal trafficking and possession of restricted drugs in a charge numbered FHC/L/393c/2022, signed by the NDLEA prosecuting counsel, Messrs L. N. Nor, and N.J. Mamza.

The prosecution alleged that the defendant committed the offences on April 6 at a motor park in Iddo, Oyingbo, in Lagos.

The prosecution said that the defendant trafficked in 6.3kg of cannabis also known as Indian hemp, without lawful authority.

According to the prosecution, cannabis is a narcotics similar to cocaine, heroine and other psychotropic substances, listed in the NDLEA schedule as prohibited .

The offences contravened the provisions of Section 11 (b) and 11(d) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Law of the Federation 2004.

The Act specifies a penalty of life imprisonment if convicted on the offence.

No date has been fixed for arraignment of the defendant. (NAN)
