A Lagos Federal High Court has sentenced a 36-year-old man, Onyeka Efobi, to 15 years in prison for unlawful importation of 1.5 kg of cocaine.

He was prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on a three-count charge of unlawful possession, conspiracy and unlawful importation of the drug from Brazil.

During the trial, the prosecutor, Mrs. Imaobong Iroabuchi, called six witnesses, who narrated how the convict was arrested at the arrival hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on September 27, 2017.

The convict change his plea during the trail.

Following his guilty plea, the prosecutor reviewed the case and tendered exhibits which the court admitted and marked.

His lawyer pleaded with the court to be lenient with him as a first offender.

The convict, he said, was forced to engage in the illicit act to raise money for his collapsed business.
