A Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court , Abuja on on Monday sentenced a 20-year-old man, Sadiq Ibrahim to nine months imprisonment for stealing six piece of caps from his neighbour.
Ibrahim who lives in Mabushi village, Abuja, was charged with criminal trespass and theft.
The Area Court judge, Sulyman Ola however, gave Ibrahim an option of N40,000 fine.
Ibrahim, had earlier pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada told the court that the convict committed the offence on July 5 .
Ogada said that the complainant, Hamisu Abubakar of the same address reported the matter at the Mabushi Police Station on July 5.
Ogade said on same the date at about 12:a.m. the convict criminally trespassed into the complainant compound and stole the complainant’s caps but was caught by the guard while trying to scale the fence.
He said that the convict was handed over to the the Mabushi Police for proper investigation.
The prosecutor added that during police investigation, the convict made a confessional statement and the caps where recovered from him.
The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.
