The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto chapter, on Saturday embarked on a two-day medical outreach that will treat no fewer than 2,000 patients in Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise is an annual event embarked upon by the association to support the medical needs of the less privileged in the society.

The medical outreach in Yabo is in collaboration with the Academicians and Medical Practitioners (ACAMEDICS) in the state.

Dr Safiyanu Umar, the ARD President, in a remark, said that the exercise was part of the end of year activities to support the society on various health challenges.

“This year, we decided to come to Yabo to offer free medical treatment to indigent patients suffering from various illnesses.

“This exercise will also involve surgery for 200 patients suffering from Hydrocele hernia, appendix and eye patients.”

The President added that the association was ready to attend to all patients who would come for the outreach “even if the number exceeds the 2,000 patients projected”.

“We have invited 150 Doctors to participate in the exercise in order to be able to attend to all the patients within the two days earmarked for the outreach.

“With the current commitment, I am certain that we will succeed in our target,” Umar said.

On his part, Dr Faruk Bande, Chairman, Local Organising Committee, said that the medical outreach was highly supported by wealthy individuals in Yabo.
