The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday ordered that the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, Mr Mele Kyari to appear before it on Thursday.
Passing the order at the continuation of its Public Sitting of the Medium Term Economic and Fiscal Strategy (MTEF) Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola, said the committee wanted to see the Managing Director and not his representatives.
He said the fact that the Corporation has been privatized does not mean it cannot be summoned to come and explain its revenue positions to the Senate.
According to him, Mele Kyari remains answerable to Nigerians on whose behest he holds office as the Managing Director of the nation’s newly divested company.
The Committee has been meeting with all Federal Government revenue generating Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) in order to be able to develop realistic projection for the preparation of the 2023 Budget.
