Wike responds to Supreme Court verdict, says Rivers State judiciary will decide
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has responded to the Supreme Court judgment setting aside the appeal against the probe of the N96 billion fraud allegation against the former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.
Wike insisted that the Supreme Court verdict has paved the way for the state government to go ahead with its probe of the transactions leading to the loss of N95 billion by the former Governor Mr Amaechi.
He said the government under Amaechi had diverted $50 million from its Access Bank account to Sahara Energy, without an evidence that the money was paid in exchange for any transaction with which the government was involved.
He however admitted that he cannot be doing everything alone, arguing that the Rivers State judiciary would study the judgment and advice the government whether or not it would want to probe the government with the intention of recovering their state’s funds.
Amaechi had dragged the Wike government to the Supreme Court arguing that the government’s intention was to embarrass him and calculated to distract him from prosecuting his political ambition, since both are not in the same political party.
The Supreme Court had thrown aside the suit and awarded a one million Naira damage against Amaechi to be paid to Governor Nyesom Wike.
