Naira crisis: Buhari is on his own, says Oshiomhole

Oshiomhole

With two days to Nigeria’s Presidential election, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse himself and revert to the use of the old naira notes.

Oshiomhole, who was also a former governor of Edo State and a senatorial candidate of the APC spoke while campaigning recently in Edo State. He said Buhari is on his own and ought to be told in clear terms because he is not towing a popular opinion on the matter of new currency.

Hinging his argument on the pains the policy has inflicted on Nigerians Oshiomole salid he would be throwing his full weight behind the 10 APC governors who have dragged the Federal Government to the Supreme Court, adding that President Buhari is nt above the law and should be told in clear terms that he cannot disobey the court.

“What the Supreme Court said was that until the matter of the legality of the nation’s currency is heard on its own merit all Naira notes that had existed before should be remain legal and be accepted nationwide. The President cannot come to abort that decision by directing that some notes are illegal. We would not accept that. Buhari should be told that he is not above the Supreme Court and he should respect the court decision”

He said the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele as an appointee of the government cannot be bigger and more powerful than Nigerians and our court. He should know that his office would expire on Saturday. It is either he does the needful or be faced to take full outcome of his actions from Saurday.

He said: “The time has come that a man should be able to stand for something or to die for nothing. That time is now and we are determined to stand with the people to say we are tired of this draconian policy and we called on President Buhari to reverse it and apologise to Nigerians.”
