Members of the Land Transportation Committee of the National Assembly are slated to visit the Headquarters of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on Wednesday.
The federal lawmakers are being expected in Lagos as part of their oversight function to the railway corporation.
Though it was not immediately known if visit would be a joint one by the Senate and House of Representatives members, Sunrise News sources gathered that the lawmakers are expected to go on tour of the Lagos-Ibadan dual standard gauge to take stock of the national asset and the level of compliance to the letters of the contract of the project by the contractor.
Sunrise News gathered that the dual Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge was inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari on June 10, 2021, with commercial operations limited only to the three major train stations at Lagos (Mobolaji Johnson Station at Ebute Meta), Abeokuta (Wole Soyinka Station) and Ibadan (Obafemi Awolowo Station).
The remaining seven stations are in various stages of completion and service activation, as finishing touches are being put on the stations.
Also awaiting completion is the telecommunications and signalization of the operations as well as the control centre from where its operations would be coordinated. A faulty bridge link have also stopped the project from being connected to Apapa Ports from where the cargo operations of the corridor ought to take-off.
