From Olukayode Idowu, Maiduguri
SUNRISE NEWS, Borno, Aug 20, 2020 The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed food items to 17 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Maiduguri and neighbouring local government areas of Borno State.
The agency also distributed food items to host and accessible liberated communities in the state, as part of it’s routine monthly distribution to victims of insurgency in the troubled Borno state.
Speaking to journalists during the flag off of presentation of the food items to the IDPs at Bakassi camp Maiduguri, the NEMA Leader of Food Distribution Team in Borno State, Flight Lieutenant Umar Sani, said the distribution was in continuation of the routine monthly distribution to designated areas in the state.
He revealed that the designated areas included 17 camps with seven official camps within Maiduguri, seven camps outside the state capital and three camps in liberated areas of Jakana, Mainok and Benesheik.
He said a total of 38,000 households benefitted from the distribution in Borno state.
He said the food items were approved for distribution by the Director General NEMA, AVM Muhammadu Muhammed (rtd) as part of the federal government’s efforts to ease the hardship of IDPs displaced by insurgency.
Sani noted that the agency has so far covered 7,400 households in Bakassi camp, while other camps will follow till the exercise is completed.
According to him, each household will get 25kg of beans, 12.5kg of rice, 12.5kg of maize and condiment that will last for one month.
He however urged the IDPs not to sell the items provided to them as government would not condone such negative practice.
