The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office, on Saturday, organised a one-day humanitarian outreach for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), at the Gongola, New Kuchingoro IDP camp in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the outreach was done in collaboration with the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Pat Silver Foundation and IROSE Foundation.
Mr Justin Uwazuruonye, Head, NEMA Abuja Operations Office, said that the event was organised to touch the lives of the vulnerable in the society, especially children.
Uwazuruonye, who was represented by Mrs Chinwe Opara, Assistant Director, Admin, NEMA Abuja Operations Office, added that the agency was thrilled by the show of support by the NGOs.
He added that as the co-ordinating agency in charge of IDPs camp, it would be glad to partner with other NGOs ready to impact the lives of the IDPs positively.
Mrs Irose Gold, Founder, IROSE Foundation, said the event was termed food festival for children so as to give them an opportunity to enjoy the season, just like other privileged children in the society.
She added that both non-governmental organizations, would also be giving out scholarship and books to the children by January 2022.
Mrs Evelyn Agu, Director, Pat Silver Foundation, added that the foundation saw the need to help them with the items as the cost of food items was on the high side.
She noted that the target was to reach out to no fewer than 1,500 children with the food items and also provide sanitary towels to the girls in the camp.
Mr Joseph Jauro, IDP Leader, appreciated the agencies and the NGOs for the donation, but called for more support in terms of scholarship for the children in the camp.
NAN reports that the items distributed include; rice, yams, corn flour, seasonings, potatoes, tomato pastes, snacks, sanitary towels, among others. (NAN)
