Nigeria govt should stop meddling with health sector- Medical Guild

The Medical Guild Association of Lagos state Government Employed Medical and Dental Doctors has appealed to the Federal,State etc to stop its interference on the policy of Health sector if it want life to be bearable with health workers without depression or brain drain.

The Chairman Medical Guild Lagos State Dr.Saheed Babajide Kehinde disclosed this recently in his welcome address speech at the 2019 Ordinary General meeting held at LASUTH Ikeja that was themed” Challenges of Inadequate Human Resources in the Health Sector:Way Forward ‘ as there is an acceptable number of Doctor to patients in Worlhealth Organisation azs the number of health workers is grossly inadequate in Nigeria and government seems to not looking it at it as a reason to fund well the health sector that leads to poor health care delivery in Nigeria. He said in Nigeria a Doctor can treat 70 to 100 patients in a day but it is unfortunate that government is still increasing infrastructure and is still have to go together as they increase it.
Dr Saheed Kehinde expressed the way forward to be increasing the remuneration for health workers and the infrastructure should be at the level that would enable Doctors/ Healthworkers to work with good facilities. He stated that there should also be synergy between the primary health care,Secondary healthcare and Tetiary one to safe our health in Nigeria from ones they run abroad to seek for greener pastures.he said.

The Commissioner for the Ministry of Health Dr.Jide Idris represented by the Permanent Secretary Dr.Titilayo said Medical profession is not about money making but a call of service to humanity, that improving available technology by partnering with original equipment manufactors to maintain equipment .As government objective is to ultimately create a harmonious environment where our hospitals are better equiped with adequate manpower in an enabling environment.

The Head of Service Lagos state mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola represented by the Pernanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development mrs Bola Balogun stated in the speech delivered that one of the cardinal objectives of this Administration amongst others is to create an enabling environment for an enhanced capacity building especially in the Health sector through the deployment of human resources as the pivot in achieving this feat.
Head of Service said futher that the Health sector being one of the core / critical sector in the state has been able to develop and implement strategies for health sector reform including the promotion of a public private partnership in health sector.saying also that the sector has been able to develop capacity for the generation and utilization of evidence based data and information for developing health policy,strategy and planet development.

The Chairman of ocasion GM Lagoon Hospital,Dr.Kunle Onakoya declared the OGM opened In his pleasure and said that inadequacy is beyond numbers anywhere in the part of the world that the importance is using the health office maximally that he has said it in the long time that brain drain caused all issues of inadequacy that govt.should stop using Tax money to send people abroad and we need to stop Strike in health sector.

The Keynote Speaker,CMD LASUTH ikeja,prof.Adetokunbo Fabanwo said that government must upgrade health facility to standard of Ayinke house and the rural area should be made attractive to making life comfortable for health workers to avoid making professionals running away from doing their jobs
Properly as human resources are not just about Doctors and Nurses for it is different meaning in other professions, all we must know.he said
. He informed that some states have signed into the Health Act including Lagos state and Osun state that it would be good news to Health workers if the National Health Act is signed by the government. While he lamented that it is sad to see a Doctor in Nigeria dragging to enter commercial bus or motorcycle to get to work as he does not blame others who run abroad for a greener pastures.
