Nigeria records 221 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, says NCDC

SUNRISE NEWS, Lagos, Aug 27, 2020 Nigeria took a low dive on COVID-19 as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirms 221 new cases of the infection on Wednesday.

According to the highlight of the infection posted on the agency’s website, besides the low new cases of infection, only three deaths was also recorded in the country.

This puts the total number of confirmed infections at 53,021, with 40,281 cases discharged and 1010 deaths recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory since the pandemic broke out in the country on February 27.

Wednesday’s figures also threw up some interesting scenarios as Lagos, which had been leading consistently in past weeks had been beaten to the fourth position as it has yielded the number one slot to Plateau which discovered 60 new cases on Thursday to Lagos’ 17. FCT however retained a second position with 33 new cases, while Kaduna and Rivers States had 26 and 18 cases respectively.

The 221 new cases are reported from 20 states- Plateau (60), FCT (33), Kaduna (26), Rivers (18), Lagos (17), Enugu (9), Kwara (9), Ondo (9), Nasarawa (6), Gombe (5), Anambra (5), Delta (4), Abia (4), Imo (3), Edo (2), Ogun (2), Oyo (2), Osun (2), Bauchi (1), Kano (1)
