The Nigerian Army Signals on Wednesday said that it would appreciate some of its officers and soldiers during the 2019 West African Social Activities (WASA) scheduled for Feb. 15.
It said that the event which would hold at the SOC Parade Ground, Signals Barracks, Mile 2 would also be used to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the soldiers in a relaxed atmosphere.
This is contained in a statement made available by Lt. Abayomi Adisa, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations Headquarters, Nigerian Army Signals to newsmen in Lagos.
He said that the event was to appreciate officers for their exemplary performances and loyalty to the force in the past year and to thank God for a successful 2019 and to usher in the new year.
“Historically, WASA which dates back to the Second World War of Allied Forces is a revered tradition of the Nigerian Army.
“During WASA, officers, soldiers and their families interact and socialise in a relaxed atmosphere to mark the end of the year’s activities thereby enhancing social interactions within the command.
“It is also, usually, a great avenue to thank God and appreciate Nigerian Army personnel for their selfless contributions to its success in the outgone year (2019) and usher in the New Year, ” he said.
The statement stated that WASA would afford the military personnel the unique opportunity to display their various rich cultural heritage through traditional dances.
Intended that it would also play an important role in reminding the old Barracks generation with the nostalgia of the good old village days.
Also, it would serve as a forum that would help to connect the younger generation born outside their communities to their roots, the statement said.
It said that the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division was expected to be the Special Guest of Honour at the event.
