Fasting and not hunger must be responsible for the way many Nigerians look, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Muhammad Sabo Nanono said on Monday.
He said there is no hunger in the land because Nigerians produce enough to feed themselves. He wondered how a nation that is self sufficient in food production could be said to be hungry.
He spoke at a news conference in Abuja on Monday, as part of the activities to mark the 2019 World Food Day coming up on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
He said it was wrong to promote the narrative of hunger in Nigeria, adding that what we have are only “inconveniences which are being addressed by the Federal Government and other relevant stakeholders like the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
According to the minister, the World Food Day is set aside to discuss food production.
“From what I am seeing in this conference room, there is no sign of hunger but obesity. Only a few people like me are either trying to balance their diet, or is it fasting that is responsible for the way some of us look?
