Nigerians’ ‘nonchalant attitude’ worsening COVID-19

COVID-19

The Coalition for a better Nigeria has said the country is seeing a spike in COVID-19 infections because of nonchalant attitudes towards the pandemic.

Its National Coordinator Awa Bamiji said some Nigerians were violating government lockdown and social distancing regulations because they did not understand how infectious the virus was.

“Today, several videos and messages have gone viral on social media condemning the government directive for them to stay at home without enriching us, like the governments of the United States, United Kingdom and few other advanced countries…

“We are seeing members of the NURTW (National Union of Road Transport Workers) carrying passengers and plying interstate roads as usual, regardless of stay at home directive of the governments while the Policemen that are supposed to check them are busy with extortion and brutality on our roads, thereby giving room to breakdown of government order.”

He advised that “all hands must be on deck, to either eradicate it (COVID-19) soonest or reduce its impact to the barest minimum all over the World.”
