In a historic verdict, the Supreme Court confirmed Abba Yusuf as the duly elected Governor of Kano State on Friday, January 12, 2024. The South West Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Comrade Kilamuwaye Bako’ Badmus, conveyed heartfelt congratulations to Governor Yusuf on behalf of the party.
Bako, part of an esteemed entourage led by Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, witnessed the groundbreaking judgment alongside the NNPP Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf, and other prominent members of the NNPP.
The Supreme Court, comprising a five-member panel, unequivocally upheld Yusuf’s election, asserting that both the tribunal and the Court of Appeal had erred in initially removing him from office. The apex court, after hearing appeals on December 21, 2023, had reserved judgment until this momentous day.
Following the verdict, Bako extended warm felicitations to Governor Abba Yusuf, emphasizing the well-deserved nature of the triumph and its positive implications for the state.
He remarked, “Victory at last as Abba Yusuf has been confirmed by the Supreme Court as the Executive Governor of Kano State. Congratulations to NNPP members within the nation and in diaspora on the Kano Supreme Court Victory today.”
Highlighting the significance of this triumph, Bako also noted its resonance for the NNPP’s gubernatorial candidate in Ogun State during the 2023 general election, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi. Ambassador Ajadi, a steadfast supporter of Abba Yusuf throughout the Kano gubernatorial trial, found reason to celebrate alongside his political ally.
Expressing gratitude, Bako acknowledged the efforts of influential leaders in the success story, stating, “I give praise to Almighty Allah over Abba’s victory and also appreciate the efforts of our great leaders, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwazo, and our leader from the Southwest, Olufemi Ajadi, for their firm and sincere support for Abba Yusuf.”
