The event, dubbed “White Saturday,” marked three years since HIFU was introduced in Nigeria, celebrating over 500 successful treatments.Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, CEO of the Fibroid Care Centre at Nordica, spoke about his decade-long research journey that led to the introduction of HIFU in Nigeria.Recognizing the country’s urgent need for non-invasive alternatives to traditional fibroid surgeries, he partnered with the Chinese company behind the technology.“Since its official launch in 2021, HIFU has provided women with a safe, effective option for treating fibroids and adenomyosis without the risks associated with surgery”.

He further said that the good thing is that the patient goes home that very day. So, there is no time that we put the patient on the bed, because some of the complications that come from fibroid surgery is not because of even the surgery, it’s because of the time that you are going to be immobilized.

Speaking on the different between HIFU and other surgeries, Ajayi said HIFU is a method where there is no chance of death and this is what these offers.

Also, the Clinical Manager of Nordica Fertility Centre, Ranti Ajayi said that it is ultrasound guided. The person is conscious even if there is a lot of heat, you will be able to tell the doctor oh I can feel heat.
