An oil services firm, Natural Oilfield Services Ltd., took 40 students of the Victoria Island Secondary School, Lagos, on road safety training in order to arm them with tips to improve their road safety awareness.
At the training which took place on Thursday, the Head, Lagos Island Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Route Commander, Philip Ogar, described road safety as a shared responsibility that requires that all citizens, to play a role in promoting safe road culture.
He said in today’s fast paced world, children can help in promoting safer road culture by equipping them with requisite skills and tips which they could in turn impart on their parents to adopt whenever they drive on the road.
“By exchanging best road practices with the students, we can tackle common challenges that we face on the road and make significant progress in easing road traffic accidents.”
He said research has found out that children become the unfortunate casualties in every road accident due to lack of awareness. Hence, educating the children is one of the important tasks to ensure the safety of future generation.
He describes rules and regulations as the spine of road safety adding that safety is a key concern for parents and is an essential element of safe travel and responsible mobility.
Former Senior Special Adviser to the governor on Education, Mrs. Adetola Salau, said: “road safety is a state of mind and accident occur due to negligence. We need to have zero victims on the roads. So, let us ensure road safety for all and save precious lives.”
According to her, educating the younger generation is a proactive measure for prevent accidents, and adhere to safety rules is essential for saving lives.
The host, Mrs. Alimi Yusuf, the Principal of Victoria Island Secondary School, praised the oil firm for the initiative.
According to her; “The safety of our students is our top priority, and we believe that education plays a crucial role in helping students navigate the road safely.”
NOSL is dedicated to promoting road safety and it aims is to create a safe and secure road safety protocols that protects all road users and enhances the quality of life for communities.

Banji, Head of Youth Safety Education at Lagos Island Unit Command; Dr. Adetola A. Salau, Former Senior Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Education; FRSC Assistant Route Commander Mariam O. Adekunle of Lagos Island Unit Command; and Mrs. Alimi Yusuf, the Principal of Victoria Island Secondary School.
