Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation Fidet Okhiria has said the use of face mask is now compulsory for all workers of the corporation, and residents, in line with the safety protocols to contain the dreaded COVID-19.
Okhiria made this known in a statement issued yesterday by the Deputy Director of Public Relations Yakub Mahmood.
He said since a healthy workforce is an asset for any organisation, because only a healthy staff that can perform optimally with profound efficiency and effectiveness.
Okhira, while flagging off the sensitisation and awareness campaign on the imperative of using face mask at the NRC Headquarters at Ebute Metta, Lagos, said strict compliance to the social or physical distancing protocol outlined by the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Center For Diseases Control NCDC, remains the surest way to contain community transmission of COVID-19.
He disclosed that the health and wellbeing of the corporation staff and their families are of immense concern to the Board and management of NRC hence, the sensitiveation.
He said the campaign will also be carried out in all the Districts of the corporation.
He appealed to the residents of the NRC yard to always wear face mask which is now compulsory and maintain social distancing, personal and environmental hygiene.
“All residents, should cooperate with NRC frontline staff who would subject them to body temperature measurement at the entry points of NRC facilities from time to time, ” Okhiria added.
Earlier, the Deputy Director Research, Health, Safety and Environment RHSE Mr. Oyekunle Oyewole, who represented the Director Corporate Planning Mr. James Z. Gyang, told the MD that the campaign will last for two consecutive days, covering the entire Headquarters.
He commended the Board and management of the NRC for being proactive in ensuring that this sensitisation campaign is carried out for the benefit of the staff.
It could be recalled that NRC Management had earlier on decontaminated offices, workshops, residential quarters and train stations in the entire system, towards riding the NRC environment of the dreaded coronavirus.
