Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has smashed a syndicate diverting educational kits meant for schools in Borno.

Also arrested are herdsmen who led their about 150 cows to  destroy farmlands in the State.

The Commandant of NSCDC in Borno State, Abdullahi Ibrahim who paraded the suspects before journalists in Maiduguri on Thursday, said the Command has also apprehended some electric transformer vandals and criminals who receive vehicles on hire but later sell them with false documents.

Ibrahim said: “on the 4/10/2019 at about 1840 hours, two suspects namely Aguneto Emmanuel, male, 26 years and John Audu, male, 20 years were arrested in possession of 86 cartoons of ‘School in a Box’ UNICEF educational kits in a private store located at Open Air Theatre Maiduguri suspected to be diverted.

“Further investigation link the crime to one Alhaji Abba, currently at large where the educational materials are meant for Guzamala local government.

“Each cartoon contains schooling materials for 40 pupil and one class teacher, depriving 3,400 pupil and 86 class teachers from benefitting.”

He also said: “On the 30/09/2019 at about 1530 hours, one Modu Goni, male, 45 years was arrested at Baban Layi behind Specialist Hospital in possession of about 13 meters of Amour cables selling it to one Chris Okwara, male, suspected to be vandalized power supply cables.

“Some suspected used cables and other used installations were discovered at the shop also suspected to be vandalized currently under investigation. Further investigation led to one open land located at Pompomari bypass with some transformers among which four were suspected to be vandalized as no document was provided to that respect.”
