Oba’s murder: Court orders remand of 12 suspects for 60 days

A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Itori in Ogun State, today, March 24, 2022, ordered the remand of 12 persons in connection with the murder of Olu of Agodo, Oba Olajide Ayinde Odetola, in the Ewekoro Magisterial District for 60 days, pending a legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The Chief Magistrate, O. F. Adeduntan, who was skeptical on the Oba Correctional Centre choice made by the state counsel, Shidu Yinusa, later granted the prayer on the ground that the police would facilitate their being brought to court on every adjournments.

Yunusa had, while praying that the court grants his prayer for the remand of the respondents in an ex parte application, dated 24th of March, 2022 and filed same day, cited Section 306, saying that, in the administration of criminal justice, it was in the purview of the court “to grant his prayer for the 60-day remand of the respondents in Oba Correctional Centre, at the first instance, pending legal advice from DPP and arraignment in court of competent jurisdiction”.

The respondents were arrested and arraigned by the Zone 2 Police Command on three-count charge of felony to commit murder, murder and setting the victim ablaze in his Sienna bus marked APP 55 GF.

In the Charge No: MIT/09m/2022, the first count reads: “That you Abiodun Sanyaolu, 45; Lukman Azeez, 48; Fatai Ramon, 32; Monsuru Ramon, 35; Adeniyi Samuel Akinjiyan, 63; Femi Adeniyi Akinjiyan, 33; Ojo Olatidebe, 35; Segun Akinjiyan, 23; Adewale Odunayo, 28; Oladele Idowu, 30; Saheed Ramon, 27,  Ajibosin Gbeminiyi, 43 and others at Large, on the 24th of January, 2022 at Agodo in the Ewekoro Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit murder and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 320 Law of the Federal of Nigeria, 2002”.

The Chief Magistrate has, however, adjourned the case to June 17, 2022, for mentioning.
