Obayendo succeeds NIMASA boss as CIOTA’s President

Chartered Institute of Transport Administration (CIoTA) has sworn in its new President, Prince Segun Ochuko Obayendo, as well as other officers, during the institute’s yearly general meeting held recently in Abuja.

The swearing-in ceremony took place during the 4th edition of CIOTA’s annual National Transport Summit with the theme “Transport Safety and Security Administration in Nigeria.”

Obayendo was declared winner of the institute’s election, held November 26, 2022, and was sworn-in as the second national president, since it became chartered in 2019, to succeed the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh.

In his inaugural speech, Obayendo, who is also the pioneer of the Computerised Vehicle inspection service in Nigeria, celebrated he achievements of the past executives while he affirmed his dedication to building on their legacy.

Obayendo restated its commitment to work tirelessly to ensure the Institute gains acceptance in the transportation sector in the country and will never deviate from his manifesto.

Upon assumption of duties, Obayendo called for technological reforms in the transportation sector at the ongoing National Council on Transportation summit in Abuja. He cited the use of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) In enforcement on roads, adding that it has helped to reduce conflicts between enforcement officials and motorists.

He also commended the efforts of the director general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASSA), Bashir Yusuf Jamoh, for the use of technology to reduce piracy in the maritime sector.

Other members of the Executive sworn in alongside Obayendo are Umar lya, as the deputy national president, Philips Okoronkwo, as the national secretary, Musa Jimoh, as the assistant national secretary, Felicia Mfon, as the national financial secretary, Ganiyu Jimba, as the national treasurer, Chinwe Uwaegbute, as the national publicity secretary, Aminu Muktar, as the national auditor, and Adewale Bashir Abdullahi, as the national provost.
