OGUN 2019: APC House of Assembly candidate seeks police protection

Aspiring lawmaker in Ogun State under the umbrella of All Progressives Congress (APC), for Abeokuta North Constituency, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun, has written the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu and Department of Security Services (DSS) in the state over threat to his life, sought the protection of police for himself, workers and his family.

Oludotun alleged that the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), candidate for House of Representatives for Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode and Odeda Federal constituency, Hon. Mikhail Kazeem were after his life, adding that they were planning to eliminate him or planting incriminating items in his house or office, in order to be arrested or detained not to participate in the incoming elections.

In the petition dated February 1st, 2019, submitted to the force headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, and DSS office in the state, the Engineer, turned politician said that impeccable source has notified him that agents of the current administration in Ogun State are trailing him for the purpose of eliminating him.

He said that on January 31st, 2019, he was in a campaign convoy with APC gubernatorial candidate in the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun at Elega junction Abeokuta, when Hon. Mikhail Kazeem attacked their campaign rally, but the Nigerian Police operatives that with the convoy was able to stop him and his thugs from harassing them.

He added that about 17:00pm same day of the campaign, he received a private (hidden)‎ call that Hon. Mikhail Kazeem with his thugs led by Adeola Kazeem (Hon. Mikhail Kazeem’s brother) and one FAJOL were planning to attack him and destroy all his properties particularly his business premises.

Oludotun said immediately at about 17:50pm on the day, he called Hon. Mikhail Kazeem to let him know that he heard about his plan to kill him and destroy his office, admonished him to have a rethink, but surprisingly he sent his thugs to his car wash at Akin Olugbade road, Abeokuta, to kill him and destroy his car alongside the cars within the premises.

He said they only met his manager and security man at his office when they came for the operation, but was told that the assassins were six in numbers dressed in black clothes, with guns, cutlasses, axes and dangerous weapons, destroyed cars, tyre machine, alignment machines, storex water tanks and carted away laptops and some cash in the office.

He alleged that some months back during the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC)‎, he was attacked by unknown assailants and threatened not to participate in the party’s primary elections or else he would be killed, thus, he was surprised when he was chased while driving one day and decided to take refuge at Lagos for some weeks.

The House of Assembly Candidate requested the state Commissioner of Police to order an investigation into the threat to his life and rising political violence in the state, citing various media reports on the development.

He said, “In view of the ongoing, I hereby, with due respect, seek protection of the police for my workers, family and me. I also urge you to investigate the threat to my life. Sir, I repeat the demand on behalf of our party APC, that the Commissioner of Police should set up an independent panel to investigate the growing political and other related violent incidents in our peaceful state.”
