The Ogun State government has commenced house-to-house collection of wastes.

Commissioner of Environment, Hon Abiodun Abudu-Balogun stated this while addressing waste managers at the conference room of the ministry in Abeokuta.

He said the present administration met a very dirty environment especially in its major cities, which informed the establishment of the waste management Authority which is saddled with the responsibility not only to ensure a cleaner state, but to bring a permanent solution to waste management.

Abudu-Balogun said the government had commenced the household refuse intervention programme which collects waste from house to house, while five dumpsites have been rehabilitated to make them accessible to waste managers.

He therefore called on the waste managers to comply with the state government’s new directives that only operators with compactors are allowed to load waste, adding that the state owned Mortgage Bank is ready to partner them in acquiring new ones.
