Ogun condemns attacks on teachers, to prosecute unruly students, accomplices

Ogun

Ogun State Government has declared zero tolerance for recalcitrant students and parents.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu met with Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) in Abeokuta on Thursday.

Arigbabu made reference to incidences where secondary school learners, their parents and others invade schools to assault teachers over disciplinary actions.

The official condemned the disruption of teaching and learning activities, announcing that errant students will be expelled and prosecuted along with their accomplices.

The commissioner disclosed that those previously caught were arrested and charged to court accordingly.

Arigbabu said his ministry would collaborate with the Police, Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), So-Safe Corps and others to ensure that normalcy is restored in schools.

Noting that Governor Dapo Abiodun had been supporting principals and teachers in the discharge of their duties, he urged parents and guardians to call their children to order.

“The Governor is really worried about the unruly trend of hoodlums coming into our schools to beat up our teachers.

“Any students caught in this act would be made to face the full wrath of the law alongside their accomplices.

“Ogun State is known for being the home of respectable and responsible citizens. We will not allow any act that would tarnish our image”, he vowed.

Arigbabu advised parents who have complaints against teachers to channel their grievances to the principals and the ministry, promising that such would be addressed.
