The Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to jealously guard the enviable position as one of the leading States in the education sector across the nation, through the provision of facilities, such as standard libraries, and good learning conditions, among other things.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in the State, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu said this during the commissioning of a Mini-Library at the Methodist Comprehensive College, Sagamu, saying the present administration has been working tirelessly to bring up initiatives that would further turn around the narrative of the education system in the State.
Prof. Arigbabu, according to the Ministry’s Press Officer, Mr. Samuel Ogungbesan, added that public schools in the State were well equipped with qualified teachers, who have the 21st century teaching skills, resilient in the discharge of their duties and well remunerated, noting that these had resulted in parents enrolling their wards in public schools.
He appreciated the facilitator of the library, Dr. Olubunmi Womiloju for the priceless gift, describing her as a hardworking, focused, dependable and great leader whose contributions to the development of learners in the State would continue to linger on.
Arigbabu said, “Library is not just a collection of books, but a gateway to knowledge, imagination and personal growth. It is a treasure thrones of souls, ideas and perspectives. It inspires us to think beyond our experience. It also serves as a sanctuary for knowledge, fostering a love for reading, intellectual density among the learners”.
In their addresses, the Chairmen, Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Evang. Olalekan Ifede and Library Services Board, Prof. Segun Awonusi described Dr. Olubunmi Womiloju as the game changer and pacesetter who always brings new innovation into the education system, enjoining teachers to make good use of the facility and encourage learners to read more.
Speaking, the President of All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mr. Olayinka Adekoya, the State Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Comrade Oluwaseun Agbesanwa and the Chairman, National Old Students’ Association of the School emphasised on the need to continually inculcate reading habit into learners as “readers today will grow to become leaders of tomorrow”.
In her remarks, the facilitator and Principal of the School, Dr. (Mrs.) Olubunmi Womiloju stated that the event was a significant milestone in the journey of the school towards achieving academic excellence as well as holistic development of the children, while reaffirming the commitment to fostering a culture of learning and cultivating a passion for knowledge among students.
Speaking on behalf of other learners, Abel Ashiru, Doyinsola Adesina, Alomaja Israel and Mariam Ahohu expressed their gratitude to the Commissioner for dedicating his commitment to enhancing education system in the State.
