Ogun, health group launches adolescent reproductive health framework

The Ogun State government, in collaboration with “Pathfinder International” have launched the state Adolescent Reproductive Health Strategic Framework, (2018-2022), in order to curtail the excess of sexual and substances abuse that rampant among the youths in the country.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye made this known while flagging off the health strategic framework for 2018-2022, held at Providence Hotel and Suites, Abiola Way, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Ipaye, represented by the Executive Secretary, Ogun state Primary Health Care Board (OGSPHCB), Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, stated that with the trend of sexual abuses among the you, it was imperative for all form of governments to pay much attention to adolescents and young people’s sexual and reproductive health system in the country.

He the Ministry of Health and Pathfinder International developed the adolescents and young people’s sexual and reproductive health strategic framework, 2018-2022 to enable adolescents and young persons in the state have access to a right information and quality services on sexual and reproductive health.

“This strategic framework is designed as a guidance documents to address gaps currently inhibiting participation of adolescents and young people Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) in the state, and the State has made tremendous efforts to strengthen adolescents and young person’s Sexual and reproductive health with interventions across the state,” Ipaye said

The Country Director, Pathfinder International, represented by Izundu Kosi, said adolescence was the period of transition between childhood and adulthood, which brought about of multi-dimensional change; biological, psychological, mental and social change in human being.

She noted that due to the major biological and psychological transformation associated with this age group, adolescents were significantly exposed to risky behaviours, with high consequences on their immediate and long-term health and socio-economic lives.

She added that Pathfinder had recorded a remarkable limestone in launching of the framework and with limited evidence that has happened in systematic assessment and mapping out of the key policies and programmes in enlightening the adolescents young ones in the country.

One of the youth representatives, Miss. Ikeobi Chinenye, admonished the young ones to key into the framework as it would serve as guide and counsel for the youths and incoming generation on how best to live their live and keep away from sexual harassment and substance abuses.
